Measurement techniques and data assessment in wetlands Hydrology
Biebrza Wetlands, Goniądz, 12-14 June 2003
The Workshop focuses on quantitative description of hydrological processes in
wetlands. Question of the appropriate technique of collecting the hydro morphological data,
methodology databases and models are of our great interest. Problems in land survey,
measurements technique, data bases and data exchange will be discussed. The main question is
model accuracy in simulating the flow in natural rivers. Their non-homogenous morphology
brings a lot of inaccuracy to model parameters, which is reflected in models results.
Topics of the Workshop
- Needs for improving hydrological modeling in the catchment scale.
- Short overview of what type of data is traditionally collected and what type of data is
needed in order to address the problems in wetlands.
- Introduction of the problem of data uncertainty and error propagation.
- Presentations of recent advances in measurement techniques that can either yield other
type of information or that can reduce data uncertainty through more robust or more
accurate measurement techniques.
- Problems of data acquisition and data uncertainty in three case studies: bog;
groundwater fed system; flood plain.
